Away goes the Evoque, in comes an armored 2013 Durango Citadel.
Because it looks safe and she needs space for her paintings.

Yer mum did a good she did
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:03 |

Armored?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:05 |

Armored? What the fuck do your parents do,man?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:07 |
|
I personally would've kept the Evoque. But armoredness is okay. V8?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:09 |
|
Wait, is it actually armored? It's definitely safe.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:11 |
|
Wow! that is really bad ass.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:11 |
|
Me too, or I'd try and find a low milage Vogue for her, I hate it when she does that. Nope, 3.6 V6.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:12 |
|
It is, the Evoque was too but it was too small according to her
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:12 |

Well, we do live in a third world country.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:12 |

We live in Brazil, crime is worrying here.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:13 |

Is it slow?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:13 |
|
I'm not sure about that, she could've gotten a Vogue.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:13 |
|
That's an old-ass license plate for a brand new car.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:14 |
|
Faster than the Evoque and that puny 2.0
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:15 |
|
That's how our license plates look like haha.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:16 |

I think he lives in Brazil (judging by the destacados.com.br watermarks on the photos) where the rate of carjackings is ridiculously high. The thing with Brazil is there's a huge wealth gap between rich and poor, and the rich drive around areas where they get targeted for carjackings. The really rich people just ride around in helicopters (Sao Paolo has the highest per capita heliports of any city) but the just regular rich often drive armored cars.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:16 |
|
Wait, so she's owned two armored cars? Where does she sell her paintings? Beirut?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:17 |
|
A bad ass car for hauling abstract paintings and lab-coats.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:17 |
|
All my parent's cars are bulletproof haha, we live in Brazil.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:17 |

at least she won't be bothered by gunshots.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:18 |

How much does an armored Durango cost and weigh?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:18 |
|
Exactly.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:19 |

As a fellow Durango owner (first-gen here), I must say, I do mostly agree with her decision on vehicle choice. Though, I would have gone with a 2014 with the racetrack LED taillamps and a V8. But still, this is a gorgeous car, in my opinion. Sucks that she didn't tell you, though she could've made a worse choice, though I am biased.
My mom also bought a Durango, maybe 2 1/2 years back. (also a first-gen). She'd wanted one for awhile, and I found her a fully-loaded 1999 model with under 100k miles for $800. A little engine work and she still drives it to this day. Like I said, they are good vehicles, as long as you avoid the abysmal-looking 2nd-gen.
That is a sharp looking SUV though. I mean, for the price and features, and safety, you can't really go wrong with one of those. Though, I hope next time she needs a vehicle, she does come to you for advice.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:21 |

How common are American cars down there?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:24 |
|
Well, she bought it used so around $60k and around 330 lb. heavier.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:27 |
|
Not very common, we have 100% import tax on vehicles so not everyone can afford them, and when they do, most people buy german.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:27 |
|
That's shocking actually.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:28 |
|
Spot on.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:30 |
|
At least I thing it's faster.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:33 |
|
You'll have to investigate. How's the C5?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:35 |
|
She usually does, but on her last two cars she completely ignored me and my father, she bought the Evoque because it looked pretty and now this because she needs something safer and big. And all I want is for her to get an old Range Rover Vogue so I can drive it.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:35 |
|
I may believe in the wagon master race, but I have always had a soft spot for these, especially the Grand Cherokee. How do you like it so far?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:36 |
|
I've been using the Pacifica the last few days, I've scheduled an stabbing appointment at the Citroen dealer for next week.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:38 |
|
I have no clue, I haven't even seen the car haha. But I like it, even though I think she should've gotten a Vogue.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:38 |
|
My view is that, among this class of 4x4, if you're not going to take if seriously off road, you can choose any of them. Grand Cherokee, Pathfinder, Highlander, Durango, whatever the Chevy is in this class anymore ....
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:38 |
|
I know you like the Range's but man the Durango is so bad ass
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:38 |

What's a Vogue?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:39 |
|
Yeah those Evoques look nice!
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:39 |
|
Yeah, but there are so many cooler cars to choose from, ML63, Vogue, XC90. All she does is shuttle her paintings around.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:40 |

Rangie Vogue
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:41 |
|
It looks so menacing, I really like it, but she's used to the comfy ride and refinement. That thing is a monster, even with the V6.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:42 |
|
Also the big Audi. In all honesty, I haven't driven a vehicle in this class in forever. Trailblazer was the last one. Oh - and the new Explorer looks very nice.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:42 |
|
That sucks. I mean, it is big and it is safe, but it sucks either way that you were ignored. :/
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:43 |
|
But isn't that he s a normal Land Rover Range Rover?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:43 |
|
yea, though I can't imagine it's as un-refined as the 2001 Durango I learned how to drive on that my mom still drives. That had a V8 though
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:44 |
|
She wouldn't buy the big Audi, too expensive (she refuses to buy used cars over 3 years old). Now me, I want a 2005 Q7 NOW!
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:45 |
|
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:46 |

I really like the Durango, it looks menacing and big, it's her car and her money so she can buy whatever she wants. I'd just like her to inform us haha.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:47 |
|
If I'm spending that sort of money, I'd get the Rangie.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:48 |
|
Yeah but Land Rover Range Rover Vogue is a really long name, and she owned a Range Rover Land Rover Evoque, so to avoid confusion I just say Vogue.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:48 |
|
Me too, but the Rangie would be 2008 at best.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:49 |
|
Understandable. The new ones are really popular over here in the States, pretty much all over the place, so they're probably pretty good vehicles. If they're anything like mine or my mom's, they're bulletproof. (Literally and figuratively in your case). It's a shame that they might not continue production of them. I hope it works out well enough though.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:57 |
|
I would still be bothered by gunshots.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 16:58 |
|
Only 330 lbs?!?!? Are you sure? Last I checked, armored vehicles generally weighed at LEAST a thousand lbs more then their contemporary counterparts.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 17:01 |
|
God no, Kevlar, Composite and 21mm glass isn't that heavy.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 17:14 |
|
I have one of these with the V6. Great car. Plenty of power. We're spoiled by HP these days. Granted, mine is not armored, but it tows a boat just fine.
Besides, it's a secret Mercedes GL underneath.
Mine is the Crew, this looks like a Citadel which is a bit swankier.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 17:15 |
|
When saying "Range Rover", the "Land Rover" bit can be dropped. It was always its own sub-brand right from the very start (an alternative proposal was "Road Rover"). You don't say "BMW Mini Cooper" or "Honda Acura TSX" or "Ford Lincoln XUYBWQZTVCXCZSE". Stop saying "Land Rover Range Rover". It makes you sound silly.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 17:16 |
|
I prefer the Crew, chrome is something I will never approve of. Armoring is just 300 lb. heavier.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 17:18 |
|
You could read the rest of the discussion, the use of the full name was to make a point, I call them "Vogue"
![]() 11/11/2014 at 17:20 |
|
Well, the cooled leather seats likely do more good in Sao Paulo than the heated steering wheel. But here in the midwest, we would appreciate both.
The chrome 20s are not too bad on these. They fill the wheel wells better than my 18s.
300# ain't shabby for good protection.

420, 240. Whatevs. Still silly.

IT'S NOT PLEXIGLAS!
I'm not yelling at you, I'm yelling at society for sustaining this urban legend. It's Lexan from GE or the common name polycarbonate.
If it was Plexiglas (acrylic originally from Rohm & Haas) you would be deader than dead.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 17:28 |

That being the case, it sounds like his parents would be better off getting one of these SA BMW options added on!

![]() 11/11/2014 at 19:05 |

Oh my gosh, really? I will have you know I DO NOT say "Land Rover Range Rover" normally. I said it there because I wasn't sure what he was referring to when he said "Vouge". I thought he might've been referring to the Evoque or a trim level of a Range Rover, but wasn't sure. Is there something wrong with clarifying? Why are you attacking me for this? I hope this is a misunderstanding. But anyway, offense taken.

Is she an artist? 'cuz my grandma is and always has to get help with us in the Ody since her Civic is too small...
![]() 11/11/2014 at 20:03 |
|
Not exactly, she paints as a hobby (she has sold some paintings for good money though).
![]() 11/11/2014 at 20:09 |

Well, same...my grandmother was actually an accountant and since she's retired she paints and travels...ALL THE TIME...
![]() 11/11/2014 at 20:10 |

I was somewhat under the impression that she often went and bought paintings (art collector) or something...
![]() 11/11/2014 at 20:20 |

Sub-brand, yes, but not a brand outright like the ones in your comparison. Mini, Acura, and Lincoln are brands on their own. Range Rover isn't. It's as much of a Land Rover as a Corvette is a Chevrolet. Corvettes don't have huge bowties on the front and on the steering wheel, or large "CHEVROLET" lettering on the rear. All they have are tiny bowties in the Corvette logo. Regardless, "Chevrolet Corvette" doesn't sound silly.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 21:42 |

No misunderstanding. Offense meant. But of the thoroughly meaningless kind earnt on the Bottom Half Of The Internet.
And it's spelt "Vogue".
![]() 11/12/2014 at 08:13 |

I lived in a 3rd world country...I took the bus. Oh dear.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 08:59 |

No, quite. Nor a sub-brand like Riley or Wolseley or Vanden Plas or Maybach. Which Acura, Lincoln, and so cannot hold a light to. Or the old Mini.
You know we also, once upon a time, referred to cars by model first, then make? E-Type Jag, Robin Reliant, Hunter Hillman.
Land Rover, Range Rover. Both Rovers. Understood?
The only reason they're different brands now and owned by Tata and not SAIC is because of clever argumentative businessmen.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 21:44 |

Is that a Brazil thing? I'm pretty sure they're just called Range Rovers in North America.
